Most first-timers love the idea of suiting up for their indoor skydiving experience. After all, looking the part is half the fun. The most important part of skydiving – whether indoor or outdoor – is appearing confident. If we look like professionals, the skills will surely follow. Right!?
Beyond just looking cool, wind tunnel suits serve a very practical purpose. They improve safety, enhance performance, and make flying more comfortable. Plus, they help instructors provide a smoother experience for first-time flyers.
Let’s start with the basics: What is a skydiving suit called? In the skydiving world, we call them jumpsuits – not flight suits like they do on the airplane side of aviation. Jumpsuits come in different styles depending on the type of flying you’re doing – different disciplines require varying levels of control.
For indoor skydiving, wind tunnel jumpsuits are designed specifically for wind tunnel conditions. Most have built-in grippers (handles) on the arms and legs, which are essential for belly flying. These grippers allow instructors to easily hold onto students and help them stay stable.
Even experienced skydivers use suits with grippers, especially when flying in formations – both indoor and outdoor – since they make it easier to hold onto your teammates. Without them, grips would be more difficult to secure, and failed attempts could result in unintended bruises – not ideal for having fun!
The wind tunnel is designed to simulate real skydiving freefall, which means flying at speeds of 120+ mph. Imagine wearing just a T-shirt and jeans in those conditions! If your shirt comes untucked, it’s going to flap aggressively – and that hurts! A jumpsuit eliminates that issue, allowing you to enjoy your flight without worrying about your clothing.
Beyond comfort, safety is another major reason for wearing a jumpsuit. Loose clothing, buttons, or jewelry can become hazards in the wind tunnel. If something flies off, it could damage the tunnel or even shut it down for repairs – leaving everyone grounded. To avoid this, no loose articles are allowed inside the flight chamber.
As you advance in tunnel flying, you might start practicing formations or even start competing. But what if you naturally fall faster than your teammates? A jumpsuit can create drag, helping you slow down. Or, if you’re smaller and need to fall faster, a tighter suit with specific materials can help increase your fall rate, making it easier to match your teammates.
The key to mastering body flight is control. When you’re flying at the extreme limits – either as fast or as slow as possible – you have very little room for adjustment. A well-fitted jumpsuit gives you better range and precision, helping you fly at your best.
When you arrive, our instructors will guide you through a short, fun training session covering basic body positions, hand signals, and tips for flying comfortably. After putting on your indoor skydiving suit and helmet, it’s time to fly in the wind tunnel! You’ll feel the rush of wind as you lift off – all under the guidance of our experienced staff.
What do you wear indoor skydiving under your jumpsuit? Comfort is key when suiting up for your flight. Wear fitted, athletic clothing that allows for easy movement. Be sure to lace up a pair of close-toed tennis shoes for a secure fit. And don’t forget – leave your jewelry at home.
Now that you know why jumpsuits matter, you might be wondering if you need to buy one for your first flight. Good news – you don’t! We provide jumpsuits for all first-time flyers, from ages 3 to 93, so you can focus on having an amazing experience without any extra hassle.
So, suit up and get ready to fly – because when it comes to indoor skydiving, dressing for success is more than just a saying!
(See what we did there??) This is the best part … nearly anyone can fly in the wind tunnel! Unlike outdoor skydiving, which requires participants to be at least 18 years old, indoor skydiving is open to almost all ages.
Participants should be in generally good health with a reasonable fitness level. There is a weight restriction of 250 pounds (if you weigh more than 250 lbs, please contact us directly, as exceptions may be made in specific cases).
If you have any health concerns, we advise checking with your doctor before flying. Some conditions may require a doctor’s note. You may not be able to do indoor skydiving if you are pregnant, have back problems, or have a history of dislocated shoulders.
Ready to do more than just look the part? We’re here to help you look and feel great every step of the way. Book your flight and experience the thrill of flight!
We have been twice now and absolutely love it and are already planning our next family flight! Andy, Derek, and all of the staff have been amazing. They are excellent with both kids and adults, and our 4 year old daughter can't get enough! The facility is top notch, and they ensure you have a safe and REALLY fun time. You can tell everyone loves what they do, and it more than their job - it is their passion. I would HIGHLY recommend this for kids and families, and they even offer birthday party packages.
