Five Things To Know Before Your First Indoor Skydive

Monday, November 30, 2020

Before heading to Paraclete XP’s wind tunnel facility and embarking on your indoor skydiving experience, here are few handy things to know.

It Is Easy To Do

Indoor skydiving is not a ride where you just strap in and hold on – it is a dynamic environment in which you are in control of your movements. After a short briefing from your instructor to explain the flying position and a few hand signals, you will be in the flight chamber learning how to control yourself. Your instructor is right there with you, and while you cannot hear each other over the wind, they are very good indeed at communicating and providing feedback.

It’s Not As Dangerous As You Think

Skydiving is a word that makes people nervous, but it shouldn’t. It’s just an industry rather unknown. Jumping from an airplane can actually be very safe, and indoor skydiving has an even more impeccable record. When you fly in a wind tunnel for the first time, the process is managed by one of our instructors from start to finish. Through a combination of training methods and experience, they’re very good at teaching people how to fly by themselves. Sure, it is possible to run into the window if you try hard enough, but all you need to do to avoid this is remember and apply your training, and most definitely pay attention to the instructor.

It Feels Just Like Actual Skydiving

That’s because indoor skydiving does prepare you for actual skydives! Whether you are falling down through the air from an airplane, or the air is moving upward through the wind tunnel flight chamber, the sensation of flying is the same. Flying is the key word here, as manipulating how the air hits your body creates movement and controls your speed. If you are in control, then you are flying! People often think that freefall, either indoors or outdoors, gives you the same falling sensation such as when you are on a fairground ride – but it does not. You just feel like you are floating around.

It Is Super Fun

You will be amazed at how much fun indoor skydiving, or bodyflying, is. It is not difficult to pick up the basics of movement even in just a couple of minutes, and while doing so it is impossible to keep a huge grin off your face. It only gets better too, as it does not take long before you can fly with others. Zooming around in the tunnel with your friends multiplies the awesome experience and you share the costs! What is not to love about that?

It’s A Sport

Indoor skydiving is not only a great way to experience the sensation of freefall without needing an airplane and a parachute, but also it is a legitimate competitive sport. There are hundreds of tunnels all around and people get together to decide who is the best at different ways of flying – such as who is the fastest, which team can make the most formations and who can fly the prettiest.

While you are with us at Paraclete XP, you very well might see flyers training in some of the various ways to fly, and at the end of your class your instructor will perform a demo flight to dazzle you with their awesome skills. While this might look like magic compared to those first minutes in the wind, remember that everyone starts at exactly the same place – and the journey of developing your abilities is amazing fun from the very first time you try it. Give us a call or book your first indoor skydive today!

Thanks so much for a wonderful first time adventure for me and my 5 year old great-niece; and also my 2nd timer niece. I felt very safe and informed through the whole process. My only wish is that we had ParacleteXP in Minnesota-with you to guide us! Thanks again for a wonderful time. We will DEFINITELY be back next time when in NC.
