The Many Advantages of Indoor Skydiving

Friday, January 3, 2020

What are the advantages of indoor skydiving vs. outdoor skydiving? Well, obviously, we love both. That said, there’re lots of interesting little contrasts between these two sister sports and plenty of advantages on either side. The advantages of indoor skydiving might just surprise you! Here are just a few to get you started.

The wind tunnel provides uninterrupted time

Where the free-fall time that we enjoyed on a skydive is limited by the fact that there’s a hard planet beneath us, the magical wind tunnel gives us all the free fall we want. (Correction: All the free fall we can afford after we’ve paid the rent and bought a few bananas.) The advent of the indoor skydiving wind tunnel has changed skydiving forever by taking away the threat of that rock and giving us plenty of extra time to work on our flying skills. Now, we can progress much more quickly and efficiently—and you can, too!

The wind tunnel is open to flyers from 3 to 103

The United States Parachute Association has, in its best practices, strictly limited the act of skydiving from a plane to persons over the age of 18. Government-issued IDs are checked, double-checked, and signed off to ensure that the rule is being followed. But guess what? The tunnel has no such rule on the books.

At the tunnel, you’ll be charmed to see agile little three-year-olds wiggle into their itty-bitty widdle suits and snap on their itty-bitty widdle helmets and get right on into the airflow in their comparatively-enormous goggles…and then grandma follows them right in. It’s super cool to see multiple generations hanging out together like that!

Sweet bonus: This provides an awesome opportunity for a totally unique birthday party that older brothers and sisters will clamor to be a part of, as well as the adults you’d love to catch up with who might otherwise drift off after drop-off.

Is it ugly outside? On a skydiving dropzone, wind, rain, and fog will keep you on the ground. In the wind tunnel, they’ll just keep you waiting on the beanbags for your next flight (with a cup of hot chocolate if you’re doing it right). In fact, we’re pretty sure that flying in the indoor skydiving wind tunnel is the best bad-weather activity on the whole planet. When you need to get your knees in the breeze and there’s a hailstorm incoming, it’s nice to know that there’s a place you can go to get it done.

Did we surprise you with the advantages of indoor skydiving? We probably did. And we’ll continue to surprise you with the awesomeness of the windytube. Come and visit! We’d love to introduce you to indoor skydiving and see that grin flicker on.

What a great experience! Derek was a fantastic instructor and was wonderful with our whole family. Thanks for a great time, and for putting up with our mid-air catastrophes, fly always, and general chaos!
We can't wait to come back!
