How Much Does Indoor Skydiving Cost Per Person?

Wednesday, October 16, 2024

Indoor skydiving offers an exhilarating way to experience the thrill of flight, and it’s accessible to almost everyone—even kids can fly! While it’s typically more affordable than traditional skydiving, it also serves as an excellent way to prepare for the real thing. In this post, we’ll break down the costs of indoor skydiving so you know exactly what to expect on your next adventure.

The Cost of Indoor Skydiving

Unlike traditional skydiving, indoor skydiving charges you based on the amount of time spent in the wind tunnel, with time calculated by the minute. On average, flyers can expect to pay between $50 and $90 per person for their first flight. Prices can vary based on location, the specific facility, and the total amount of flight time.

First-time flyer packages generally include a training session, multiple flights, and a post-flight debrief to ensure you get the most out of your experience. For example, at Paraclete XP, our introductory package is $85 per person and includes:

  • First flight training
  • Two one-minute flights in our simulator with an instructor
  • A flight certificate
  • All the necessary gear (helmet, goggles, flight suit)

Packages & Discounts

Looking to save a little extra dough? Consider purchasing larger packages that lower the cost per person. For instance, our family plan allows you to share 10 minutes of flight time among friends. If five people share the time, it works out to just $80 per person.

Repeat flyers can also take advantage of discounted rates by purchasing additional flight time. Our repeat flyer packages are ideal for those who have completed basic training and are looking to get more time in the tunnel without committing to a membership.

How Indoor Skydiving Works

Indoor skydiving simulates the feeling of freefall by letting you float on a column of air created by high-speed fans. These powerful fans generate an updraft strong enough to lift you off the net!

A Paraclete XP, we boast the largest vertical wind tunnel in the United States! Our tunnel can reach wind speeds of up 180 mph and stands 53 feet tall. It’s as close as you can get to the real thing without jumping from a plane!

What to Expect During your Indoor Skydiving Experience

When you arrive for your indoor skydiving session, you’ll first check in and attend a safety briefing. This important step ensures you’re fully prepared and covers everything from proper body positioning to learning the hand signals necessary to communicate with your instructor. Once the briefing is done, you’ll gear up in a flight suit, helmet, and goggles to ensure your safety and comfort.

After suiting up, you’ll head to the wind tunnel area for your flight. Your instructor will be with you every step of the way, helping you to relax and enjoy the experience. Many first-time flyers are pleasantly surprised by how natural it feels to float on air.

Don’t just take our word for it—many people rave about the adrenaline rush and freedom they feel during indoor skydiving. It’s an experience that’s hard to beat!

Safety First

Our wind tunnel is equipped with state-of-the-art technology, and our instructors are highly trained professionals. While there’s inherent risk in any adventure sport, every aspect of our operation is engineered with safety in mind. From your initial briefing to the design and maintenance of our wind tunnel, each detail is carefully considered to help minimize risk and let you focus on the thrill of flying.

Why the Price Tag?

You might wonder why indoor skydiving costs what it does. One significant factor is the high energy consumption needed to operate the powerful fans that keep you aloft. In some states, demand for electricity can limit the tunnel’s operations during peak times. Talk about power!

Another reason is the extensive training our staff undergoes. Becoming a tunnel instructor isn’t just about knowing the basics – it requires extensive knowledge and flying skills, with a rigorous training program that many find challenging. You can rest assured that our instructors have dedicated significant time in the wind! Many facilities, like ours, put their instructors through comprehensive training programs, ensuring that they’re the best at what they do.

On top of that is the significant investment in infrastructure. Building a wind tunnel isn’t an inexpensive venture. How much is an indoor skydiving simulator, you ask? The range is broad due to various factors like location and tunnel size, but typically the answer is in the multi-millions.
